Say a number between 1 and 10. Most people will say 7.
Why is that?
Why is 7 a lucky number for a lot of people?

  • “There are seven days of the week, seven colours of the rainbow, seven notes on a musical scale, seven seas and seven continents. Snow White ran off to live with seven dwarves, there were seven brides for seven brothers,Shakespeare described the seven ages of man, Sinbad the Sailor had seven voyages. And when Ian Fleming was looking for a code for James Bond, he didn’t go for 006 or 008. Only 007 had the right ring.” (Daily Mail)

  • The number seven is significant in the world of psychology and our memories. According to cognitive psychologist George Miller of Princeton University, “The number of objects an average human can hold in working memory is 7 +/- 2.” (Source). He wrote this in 1956.This has been debated in the world of psychology, but yet it still remains in our consciousness.

In terms of mathematics, seven is considered to be a Happy Number. A “happy number” is such that when you square each of its digits, add those squares, then repeat the process, eventually you will get an answer of 1.

Here is how it works: 7^2 = 49     4^2 + 9^2 = 97     9^2 + 7^2 = 130     1^2 + 3^2 + 0^2 = 10     1^2 + 0^2 = 1

The fact that you ended up at 1 means that it is a “happy number”. Each number obtained along the way (49,97,130,10) are also happy numbers because you can start the steps at any one of these numbers and get a 1 at the end. (Math Forum)

As you can see the number seven is found in all aspects of our lives. If you have a number seven story, please tell us. We would love to hear it.
